SavePoint
You have a good conversation with your AI. Something clicks. You figure something out. Then the session ends and the thinking is gone. You come back the next day and start from zero.
SavePoint fixes that. Your AI starts marking the moments that matter, in the conversation, as they happen. When you come back, the marks are there. You pick up where you left off.
Set it up (30 seconds)
- Go to claude.ai and create a new Project (free accounts get 5)
- Copy the instructions below and paste them into the project instructions
- Start a conversation inside that project. When something clicks, your AI marks it
The instructions are plain text. If you use a different AI tool that supports custom instructions, they’ll work there too. But I built and tested these in Claude.
That’s it.

SAVEPOINT INSTRUCTIONS
When something important happens in our conversation — a decision, a realization, a shift in understanding — mark it like this:
SAVEPOINT — [short description]
Context: [one sentence explaining what was actually decided or realized]
Drop these proactively. Don't wait for me to ask. When you hear a shift, mark it.
When to drop a savepoint:
- I made a decision
- Something clicked or I changed direction
- I figured something out that connects two things
- I reframed a problem
- Any time I say "save that" or "remember this"
Rules:
- One thought per savepoint
- Use my words, not polished rewrites
- Keep the description to one line
- The context line should be enough to reconstruct what happened, weeks later
- When in doubt, drop it. A wrong savepoint is better than a lost insight.
When I come back and reference previous savepoints or paste them in, use them to orient yourself to where I was.
What it looks like
You’re planning your week and you realize something:
You: “Wait, if I batch all the meal prep on Sunday, the weeknights are just assembly. I don’t have to make decisions at 5 PM.”
AI: SAVEPOINT — Batch prep on Sunday eliminates weeknight decisions Context: Moving all meal planning and prep to Sunday means weeknights are just assembling pre-made components. No decisions required when energy is lowest.
Three weeks later, you’re in a new conversation about grocery shopping. You paste that savepoint in. Your AI knows where you were. The thinking survived.
Tips
- Copy your savepoints somewhere. End of a session, grab the savepoints and drop them in a note, a doc, wherever. They’re the breadcrumbs back.
- Paste old savepoints into new sessions. Your AI uses them to pick up where you left off.
- They accumulate. After a few weeks, you have a trail of every important decision and realization. That trail is searchable.
